From embers to fire

Crackling pops broke the silence as faint light gave way to the dancing glow of a fire. Darkness could not hide it. From small embers—once part of a greater flame—new life began to rise again.

I sat next to the ashes of the previous night’s fire. A steady stream flowed nearby, its sound constant and calming. The early morning carried distant animal calls through the air.

Among the ashes, I noticed a faint ember. I moved closer. Around it lay blackened, lifeless remains—cold, scattered, finished.

But something in me wanted to see the fire live again.

I gathered what was left—two small sticks, a piece of a log, a few dying coals. Then I leaned in and gently breathed onto the ember.

At first, nothing.
Then a faint glow.

I breathed again.

The ember flickered, almost as if it would die completely—breaking apart, sending small ashes into the air. It looked like the last of its life was fading.

But breath after breath, something changed.

The heat spread.
The coals began to respond.
And slowly—flames rose again.

I added small sticks, carefully. The fire grew. Soon it was alive, steady, radiating heat once more.

In the same way, even when it feels like life has passed you by—when all that remains are ashes—God is able to bring life again.

What seems finished is not beyond Him.

Sit with Him. Remain with Him.
He breathes life into what is fading.

He restores. He revives.

Allow God to breathe life into your ember.
Let Him place what is needed to sustain the flame.

He does not force—but He calls.

Remain.
Abide.
And burn again for His glory.

Isaiah 42:2
“A faintly burning wick he will not quench”
